Spirits and Totems of the City

Cities will offer you a totem or spirit guide if you pay attention. Meditate or take a walk through the cities with your third eye open. What do you see? Urban totems tend to be a little different that country totems. The animals that most cross our paths tend to be birds, cats, dogs, squirrels, chipmunks, rodents, spiders and other insects. Each one has a lesson to offer us if we just pay attention.

Get to know your city's spirits. Take a walk in the heart of the city and introduce yourself to it. Make the city and its spirits your friends.

Some urban Witches believe in the mechanical spirits, those that dwell in the subways, cars, streetlights, etc. Have you ever been soothed by the hum of a streetlight, a silent sentinel of the city, while walking on a summer night? And speaking of humming, the great spirit of electricity is alive and flowing strong in the city. It is a strong spirit waiting to be tapped into.

Spirits are all around you in the city, all you have to do is look. As Christopher Penczak said, regardless of the method of creation, the greater spirit of the creator works through all acts of creation and imbues them with spirit energy.
