Places of Communing The home is the obvious choice for most Wiccans. Many also have a small unidentifiable altar at work. And while country Wiccans may have easy access to what is traditionally viewed as nature, urban Wiccans have their own places to commune. While you might not think of bars, night clubs and taverns as a place to commune with a higher power, you would be surprised by the results. Think about it. At a club, you have a nice strong techno beat going (symbolic of drums); there is wine and/or caffeine flowing and there is dancing, lots of dancing. These elements, like those of a traditional Ritual, allow you to go into a trance-like state, to connect with your inner mind and the astral plane. Who hasn't gone to a club and "got lost in the music?" Next time you enter a club take a moment to stop and feel the energy: the pulse of the music, the movement of the people, the dancing of the lights across the floor. Pretty powerful stuff. And going out is like a ritual itself. Don't we bath, get dressed in clothes usually reserved for going out, do our hair and make up, add some perfume, and maybe have some dinner (simple feast) before hitting the club? Museums and historic sites are places to honor the past, commune with old culture, heroes and legends. Connect with the energy of these places and learn what they wish to teach. And last, but certainly not least is the Internet. At no other time in history have so many people been able to connect so intimately on a nonphysical plane; this one called "cyber space." Knowledge, emotions, histories are all being shared with unmatched ease. Instant messaging and chat rooms allow for easy access to an online community, a second family for some. If a solitary Witch wants to meet others or become part of a Wiccan community and is having trouble finding one locally, the Internet can connect him or her to thousands like him or herself with the click of a button. People have joined together
online to do ritual, spells, meditations, divinations, etc. It's
yet another way to raise power.
