Court Arcana
The Court Arcana consists
of 16 cards: four face cards from each suit: the page (sometimes
princess), knight (sometimes prince), queen and king of the wands,
pentacles, swords and cups.
Kings
· General personality
traits: Mature and expressive; one who organizes and controls external
matters, sometimes at the expensive of personal matters
· Age: A mature man
· Represent: closure, completion.
· They are about releasing old patterns of behavior so that
you can move on with the rest of your life.
Queens
· General personality
traits: Mature and reflective; one who organizes and controls external
matters, sometimes at the expensive of internal or personal matters
· Age: A mature woman
· Represent: female energy, the yin, the qualities of the
inner self and the female influence in society.
· They are woman who enjoy the wisdom of their knowledge
Knights
· General personality
traits: Extremists, very focused, can be unbalanced or fanatical;
may represent a fast-moving situation.
· Age: adult man (usually 20-40ish)
· Represents: A long-standing condition in your life is about
to change. Travel.
Knights are of note because they are instigators of change marking
the beginning or end of a situation. When a knight appears in a
reading, a long-term condition will suddenly change
Pages
· General personality
traits: Novices, eager and enthusiastic but sometimes shallow; can
indicate a message that the querent will receive.
· Age: Young child or woman (or an adult who is emotionally
immature)
· Represents: messages or communication (usually in relation
to the suit)
Pages are also of note because they are the bearers of news.
*note to ages: Age is relative in the tarot. If a middle-aged seeker
pulls a page in relation to a love question, it doesn't mean she's
going to pull a Mrs. Robinson. It most likely means that her new
love interest will be a man younger than she is. You will get a
feel for deciphering age the more you read with your cards.
Court Cards and Astrology/Time
With the exception of
Knights, who are all about change, each of the remaining Court cards
represent an astrological sign and dates. The signs and dates may
differ from source to source. I found the following in three different
books, therefore, majority rules. It isn't a precise science, but
it can give a general timeframe. (Personally I tend to tie them
to the signs of the suit).
