"Puppet
Mistress "
By Maera
Sigmund
Freud stated that dreams always have meaning. Many years
ago I disagreed; backing that disagreement up with the
thought that I was just having elaborate puppet shows
in my head. Some of those puppet shows were going desperately
awry.
When
the shows started reoccuring, playing every Monday through
Friday with a full house, I was beginning to wonder
how much longer I had to be the hostess. Especially
because I didn't quite care for the genre.
I heard
through the grapevine that if you grasped the meaning
behind the dreams your brain would finally say, "Okay,
let's move on."
My only
hope. Though I wasn't so sure that any actual meaning
existed since I couldn't point out a plot.
But I
had to try, right?
Honestly,
I was afraid to share some of my dreams because I figured
someone would say that I was a demented freak (a direct
result of watching too many horror flicks growing up).
So, I had to suck it up and go where I've never gone
before (for this type of thing)... the library and bookstores.
The books
didn't have any straight answers. Just guidelines. But,
luckily I got it. I realized that each part of my dream
(plot or no plot included) was built from symbols. When
I started to break the dream down into these individual
symbols everything started to fall into place. I finally
said, "AHA!"
That
"aha!" moment was very similar to an "abracadabra!"
because poof... no more nightmarish puppet show.
From
that moment on me and Sigmund have been on the same
page. All dreams do have meaning. We just need to be
open to different interpretations. And remember, most
times... nothing is what it seems. Dreams have no boundaries.
Break your dreams down into pieces and look at each
part independent of the other. You too will be replacing
all the, "huh?'s" with many, "aha!'s".
With
a lot of practice, I now choose what show is in and
for how long. I decide when the curtain closes for good.
What a nice feeling it is. Control your dreams, don't
let them control you. We can all run our own shows.
Getting a handle on those dreams helps get a handle
on your lives.
