Stone: Pearl
Color: White or black
Associated Element: Water/Akasha
Energy: Receptive
Magickal Powers/Uses: Pearl, like mother-of-pearl and coral,
is an organic substance produced by a living creature. A pearl begins
as a very small pebble or grain of sand that becomes lodged within
the shell of a oyster. The creature is irritated by the foreign
matter and secrets a coating of mother-of-pearl to cover the grain
of sand, which gradually builds up and becomes a pearl. The oyster
must be killed to harvest the pearl. As stated earlier, each individual
must choose whether using organic substances such as pearl in magick
is appropriate. There are many fine substitutes which do not sacrifice
a living being that can be used instead. As Scott Cunningham states
in his book "Cunningham's
Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem, and Metal Magic", "
...some believe there is a heavy debt incurred by those who engage
in trafficking pearls and by those who wear and use them."
However, pearls have a long association of magickal use. They are
sacred to sea goddesses and gods, particularly in ancient Rome,
Syria, Egypt, and in Norse religion. They play an important role
in the cultures of China, Japan, India, and the Pacific. Pearls
are used to attract money, luck, love, and protection. They foster
wisdom ("pearls of wisdom") and understanding. Pearls
are found in oceans throughout the world.

Stone: Peridot
Color: Light green
Associated Element: Earth
Energy: Receptive
Magickal Powers/Uses: Peridot is a transparent light green
stone used for protection, wealth, emotional balance, and general
health. It is also called olivine, but this term is usually reserved
for the darker olive green/yellow form of the stone. Peridot disperses
negative emotions such as envy, anger, and jealousy. It was worn
in antiquity to protect one from enchantments, negative energy,
nightmares, and evil spirits. Ancient Romans used peridot to dispel
depression and melancholy. Its green color also associates it with
attracting money and wealth. It is useful for cleansing toxins from
the body. Peridot is found in Egypt, Africa, Brazil, Myanmar, Australia,
Mexico, and the United States.

Stone: Petrified Wood
Color: Brown-red
Associated Element: Akasha
Energy: Receptive
Magickal Powers/Uses: Petrified wood is a fossil, millions
of years old, in which trees that were covered with water were dissolved
and formed into minerals from the water. It has associations with
life and longevity, helps one to discover ancient wisdom, and fosters
respect for all that is old. It has a mottled red, brown, and gray
appearance. Petrified wood is also used as a talisman of protection
and security. It may aid in facilitating communications with trees.

Stone:
Pyrite
Color: Gold
Associated Element: Fire
Energy: Projective
Magickal Powers/Uses: Pyrite is a sparkling yellow-gold metal
usually found in crystal form. The pale silver form of pyrite is
called marcasite. Pyrite is also known as fool's gold, as it was
sometimes mistaken for actual gold during the Gold Rush of the 1800's.
Because of its similarity to gold, pyrite is used in magickal workings
to attract wealth and luck. It is also protective, and can shield
one from all types of negativity and danger. Pyrite augments intelligence,
decisiveness, and is helpful for those who tend to be forgetful.
It is used in treating infections, fevers, colds and flu, and diseases
of the lungs. Pyrite is an incredibly abundant substance, but notable
occurrences include Peru, South America, Russia, Spain, Germany,
and the United States.
